Safe Men

Did I like this movie?  It was pretty enjoyable with only some of my FAVORITE actors in it.  Steve Zahn (who I have followed for quite some time and am loving now in Treme), Sam Rockwell (who I am convinced now has in every one of his contracts that he must be nude and do a little dance at some point in every film he’s in, not sure when this started but I think he got a taste of it in this movie and has insisted upon it ever since), Paul Giamatti (trained at Yale, character name in this movie: Veal Chop), Mark Ruffalo (rocks pretty much every time), and a cameo by the charming Peter Dinklage (who we’ve loved ever since The Station Agent and now get to gaze upon his loveliness in Game of Thrones) wielding a mallet. You’re gonna wanna start out having a couple of slow gin fizzes, then throw a few Kobe beef steaks on the grill.  All you can do once that’s happening is sit back and enjoy the show.  Oh and, try not to laugh so hard because that fizz hurts coming out of your nose.

8 1/2

8 1/2 is a film by Federico Fellini with themes that are at once dark then playful and quite fun.  I found it so clever that I would watch it again under the following conditions:  nice dark room lit by candlelight.  One must get comfy as it is rather long.  For the appetizer I would have a baked brie with a cherry chutney on top.  A nice lemoncello accompanied by Fiuggi water.  Not too many lemoncellos at once.  Space them out so as to concentrate fully on the film.  For dinner a nice Cacio y Pepe pasta or black and white pasta dish piled high into a tower.  For dessert:  grapes sprinkled with sugar.  Guido would be proud.  GULP!
